Day 1: Journey from Rishikesh to Joshimath

Drive Distance: 256 km
Travel Time: 9–10 Hours
Altitude: 6,150 ft

Your journey begins from the spiritual town of Rishikesh as you drive towards Joshimath, the base town for the trek. The route follows the sacred Alaknanda River and passes through the famous Panch Prayag — the five holy confluences of Uttarakhand.

Along the way you will cross:

  • Devprayag – Confluence of Alaknanda and Bhagirathi forming the Ganga

  • Rudraprayag – Meeting point of Alaknanda and Mandakini

  • Karnaprayag – Confluence of Alaknanda and Pindar River

  • Nandaprayag – Confluence of Alaknanda and Nandakini River

  • Vishnuprayag – Confluence of Alaknanda and Dhauliganga

Upon arrival in Joshimath, check into your hotel or guesthouse. Evening briefing about the trek followed by dinner.

Day 2: Joshimath to Dhak Village – Trek to Gulling Top

Trek Duration: 4–5 Hours
Altitude: 9,600 ft

After breakfast, drive from Joshimath to Dhak Village, which serves as the starting point of the trek.

The trek begins with a gradual ascent through terraced farms and small mountain settlements. As you gain altitude, the trail enters dense forests of oak and rhododendron. The scenery becomes increasingly beautiful with views of towering Himalayan peaks.

From the campsite at Gulling Top, trekkers can enjoy spectacular views of peaks like:

  • Dronagiri

  • Hathi-Ghoda Parvat

  • The famous “Sleeping Lady” mountain formation

Overnight stay: Camps at Gulling Top

Day 3: Gulling Top to Khullara Camp

Trek Distance: 4 km
Trek Duration: 4–5 Hours
Altitude: 11,070 ft

After breakfast, continue trekking deeper into the alpine wilderness towards Khullara Camp. The trail gradually climbs through thick forests known for their ancient oak and walnut trees.

During winter, the route often transforms into a magical snow trail, creating a stunning landscape. As the forest opens up, trekkers begin to witness breathtaking views of Himalayan peaks like:

  • Nanda Ghunti

  • Kamet

  • Chaukhamba

The peaceful forest campsite of Khullara is surrounded by snow-covered peaks and alpine meadows.

Overnight stay: Camps at Khullara

Day 4: Khullara Camp – Kuari Pass Summit – Return to Khullara

Trek Distance: 15 km
Trek Duration: 10–11 Hours
Maximum Altitude: 12,763 ft

This is the most exciting day of the trek. Start early in the morning for the summit push to Kuari Pass.

The trail gradually climbs above the tree line and enters wide alpine meadows offering one of the best panoramic views in the Garhwal region. From Kuari Pass, trekkers can witness a breathtaking 180-degree Himalayan panorama including:

  • Nanda Devi

  • Chaukhamba

  • Kamet

  • Hathi Parvat

  • Ghoda Parvat

  • Kedarnath Peak

Spend some time enjoying the views and capturing photographs before descending back to Khullara camp.

Overnight stay: Khullara Camp

Day 5: Khullara Camp to Tugasi – Drive to Joshimath

Trek Distance: 8 km
Drive Distance: 13 km

After breakfast, begin the descent towards Tugasi Village. The trail passes through forested slopes and small Himalayan settlements.

Upon reaching Tugasi, board the vehicle and drive back to Joshimath.

Check into the hotel and relax after completing the trek.

Day 6: Joshimath to Rishikesh

Drive Distance: 256 km
Travel Time: 9–10 Hours

After breakfast, begin the return drive from Joshimath to Rishikesh following the same scenic route along the Alaknanda River.

Enjoy the final views of Uttarakhand’s beautiful landscapes before reaching Rishikesh by evening, marking the end of the Kuari Pass adventure.
